I haven't blogged much for a couple of weeks. Been in kind of a hole lately, as concerns what project to start next. I just released SelbyWord v2.0, which I'm hoping is going to be the final version of my game. I've made some drastic changes to the game behind the scenes and some small cosmetic changes up front. Inside the works of the game itself, I implemented a huge re-write of the board code which resulted in a drop in the number of scripts from 229 to 20. This gave me a number of performance obstacles to overcome, such as those imposed by LSL's forced script delay of 0.2 seconds everytime you update a texture. This was fine for the general playing of the game, however, when it came to setting up the board when the game was reset... 15 rows of 15 tiles each... 225 tiles times 0.2 seconds... well... you do the math! A little multi-threading here allowed me to bring things up to par!
I came up with something to, hopefully, build on the success of my cycling picture frame. It's called the 'Memories Pond'... it's basically a pond with water effects and a particle fountain in the middle amongst some other pondish (is that a word?) decor. The concept is simple, you throw a stone into the pond (click it) and it displays a memory (photo) beneath the water which fades away after a time delay. The pond is very configurable, it's fully mod (other than the scripts) so you can change it to your liking, I also built in some visual customisation via chat commands. Take a look, if you're interested, in my store in Selby! I'd also like to thank my good friends Gramma and Met for their idea of the memories pond and their help with testing / suggestions.
I'm having a sale right now, to celebrate the release of SelbyWord v2.0, I've slashed the price of the game to just L$499 for the compact version and L$999 for the full-size. You can check it out, along with my memories pond and other items, in my store at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Selby/224/102/56. Have any questions? Give me a shout!
I'd definately like to make another game next, guess I'll have to keep thinking on that one. at: Selby (217, 125, 68)
